Storage and moorings on the West of Scotland

The site at Barcaldine is 12 miles North of Oban on the A828 and two hours comfortable drive from Glasgow.  It is also 6 miles from Connel Airfield which is currently undergoing major refurbishment to welcome charter flights in the future.

Situated on the southern shores of picturesque Loch Creran, MRC yachts is established at The Marine Resource Centre, which comprises a deep water pier, slipways, unrivalled facilities and expansive warehousing and secure storage for yachts / boats both indoors and outdoors.

Loch Creran is designated a Special Area of Conservation

The Loch has been designated for the outstanding biogenic reefs of the Serpulid worm serpula vermicularis. Loch Creran is the only place in the world where living reefs occur in abundance. Only recognised moorings should be used in the Loch to avoid physical damage to these fragile structures

The site has been converted over the years to other uses, including yacht storage since 1998.  MRC now provides both on land and afloat facilities for yacht storage

Navigation : Loch Creran is approached from Loch Linnhe, and the entrance is well lit and buoyed with deep water at all stages of the tide. Tidal flow is 4 to 6 knots at spring tides.

Yacht Services : Storage / Moorings

MRC offers excellent and unrivalled storage facilities for yachts.  5000 square metres of indoor storage are dedicated to storage and are able to accommodate up to 100 boats.

MRC started secure indoor and outdoor yacht storage in 1999 and the demand has been so great that the business has increased space allocation to now make it the largest indoor yacht store in the West Highlands.

Since 2004 MRC has sponsored the Glencoe Boat Club annual regatta and MRC are proud to be involved with this growing and vibrant club.

In 2006, 50 No. swinging moorings were installed and this will increase to 100 for the 2007 summer season.

The deep-water swinging moorings are in a minimum depth of 6 metres and are laid in trots.  They consist of 54mm ground chain secured by 3 tonne concrete blocks throughout their length. 7 metre, 32mm surge chain is shackled onto the ground chain at 30m centres.  A 32mm rope riser is shackled to the surge chain at a “trawl” buoy and this chain is attached to a surface buoy.

The moorings are suitable for vessels up to 11.6m in length or 15 tonnes gross weight. All the moorings are professionally inspected and serviced.

MRC has designated visitor moorings and these buoys are numbered: D12, D13, D14, E13, E14, E15.

MRC does not permit anything other than unpolluted water to be drained at the moorings.

Slippage and Storage :

The yard has a capability of slipping and storage of craft up to 15 tonnes displacement and 4.5m beam. Tariffs include slipping, scrubbing off, cradling in the yard and storage up to 26 weeks, routine checks of the vessel and re-launching.
